“My best memory would be the time that we were in Cascoland and we shared a beautiful meal and there was a storm. And then suddenly the sun came, and the end of the day was just the most beautiful light.” This is just one of the many memorable moments Upfarming and the City of Utrecht have shared, highlighted in the third Buddy Bites interview. It underscores the powerful role food plays as a social connector.
Today, we introduce you to Barbara Arita from Upfarming and Imara Antonius from the City of Utrecht. A shared mission of their Food Sharing Initiatives is to make the city a better place to live, and they both work toward this goal by using food as a tool to address social challenges.
One final insight from the interview, as Imara notes, is that “you need meeting spaces, so that people can, in a social way, engage and become great volunteers in the public space.”
