The new CULTIVATE video series, “Buddy Bites”, has officially kicked off. Along with that, it has also begun our immersive journey through valuable knowledge exchange and meaningful human connections. In this first episode, Breanne Ayala from FoodCloud and Raquel Diaz Ruiz, representing Espigoladors, share their mutual “buddy” experiences.

During the visit to Espigoladors’ facilities, one of the best moments of exchange was the joint gleaning activity: “I think you talk about farm-level food waste, but then actually going there and seeing it—and seeing how much there was—it puts it in a whole new perspective. It’s not just one field. And thinking about all the fields out there, it made me rethink how I think about it all,” says Breanne.

Proving the value and usefulness of these meetings, Raquel also reflects: “One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned that I take home is that we need to stay more in contact and keep in touch with other food-sharing initiatives from Europe and around the world. We share the same challenges, and even though we’re from different countries or regions, we can still help each other because we are at different stages.”
